Today was a nice day, albeit a little stressful.

I rented my first ZipCar and picked up Vern and headed out to Farmingdale, Long Island to pick up two new additions to my family, Mimi and Gizmo. They are purebred Persian cats.

I had been looking to adopt one cat, or maybe two kittens. It turns out that a friend from work had two that she had basically had to lock into a room for a few years because of her severe allergies to them. I took them because she showed me a picture and it just made my heart melt!

So I have them here now and the poor things are really terrified. Mimi was hiding under my shower curtain and Gizmo hasn't left the carrier. I took a box and cut holes in it for Mimi and she got in it and went to sleep.

So, I had hoped to take a few pictures but I don't want to scare them any more than they already are. So you'll just have to be patient.

Hope everyone is well.

Congratulations on acquiring fur-children !

I hope they settle down with you and relax. Sounds like they've had a hard time before being locked in one room, poor things. Someone should tell them they are now in cat heaven - being looked after by a gay man - what more oculd any Persian want?

Thanks for the kind words. I did make them a cat castle and they seem to be coming around pretty quickly.

I'm going to post an entry about them shortly.

Thats so great of you to take them.I must say in all my experience of cats,if they have,as you describe, been locked in a room for a FEW YEARS they will have some severe problems trusting and or relating to anyone. You really have your work cut out for you with these two.
My suggestion:
Get a few cardboard boxes and build a Cat Castle.Tape the boxes together, cut holes in them, thread wool and string thru, give em places they can peek out and places they can retreat and hide. They will LOVE IT!

They'll need lots of love and I know you're the one to give it to them

I got a ZipCard a couple months ago, but haven't used it yet. Is it really as simple as it seems?

Yes it was very easy. My only complaint was I had some difficulty finding a car here in Jersey City.

Other than that, I'd say try renting one for just an hour or two so you can see what it's like
