Car scares...
Feb. 5th, 2003 01:34 amI have an old car, a 1992 Plymouth Voyager. Hey, the price was right, it was free : )
Anyway, I'm worried she's not going to make it through the winter. For the entire 11 years she's been in the family (she belonged to my grandmother, and then my parents before I got her) she's ran great.
Then one day last week, she didn't want to start. Had to sit and crank her for 5-6 minutes before she FINALLY started, and then ran fine for a few days. Including, thankfully, through all my moving. My ex roommate, Dan, who was once a Master Mechanic, said it's most likely caused by the fact that it's just SO fucking cold.
On the way home tonight, it was bitterly cold and the wind was howling. About 2/3 of the way home (mostly each time I had to slow down because of the blowing snow on the expressway) she tried to stall on me, and I had to push down the gas to keep her from doing so.
As I made one of the last turns across the expressway and into the residential section where Sean's house was, she died. I managed to coast her onto a side street, where I thought I could leave her safely if she wouldn't start again.
Then I noticed a NO PARKING AT ANY TIME sign. Great. So i sat there and kept cranking and cranking. having these images running through my head of all the things that lay ahead. Then she started up and I managed to get her down the street and around the corner.
As I rounded the corner and neared the driveway, she died again. Luckily, she coasted into the open spot in Sean's driveway. I turned the ignition off and sighed. It was 10:30 and I dared not call my father for advice.
Just for the heck of it, I turned the ignition and she started right up. The last thing I need right now is car problems. The VERY last thing I need.
So my old roommate has some dry gas for me to put in the gas tank each time I fill her up, which would help. And I have to go back over there and get the rest of my stuff that got left behind.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.
